After the glut of the holidays - so many people to see, so much to do, so much to eat! - I feel a bit of a letdown. After the bright lights are put away and the decorations are placed neatly in their boxes, the house can feel a little empty (less so with a toddler on the move!). But without the distractions of the holiday season, the first quarter is the ideal time to quiet down and reflect, to shift focus inward, to reconnect with yourself and your loved ones, and renew.
For me, it’s also time to reevaluate what, exactly, is filling up my time and my home. A new year is a fresh start, a time to make changes and tailor our lives around what we really need and love. Having our daughter has brought some urgency to this process, and this year, work-life balance has been a big topic of conversation for our family. What kind of example do we want to set for our daughter? What kind of family do we want to be? You can’t procrastinate with a baby. They only get one childhood!
And we only get one life.
So take some time to reflect on what you love about your life, and what you don’t. For 2020, my goal is to waste less. I want to physically create less waste but I also want to waste less time. I want to trim back and focus on what really matters.
